Woven Together

Woven Together is a top-down knit pullover, or a steeked cardigan with buttons or a zipper. Starting with a corrugated rib collar, the yoke is knit with the colour work chart, with indicated increases. The garment is then divided into body and sleeves and knit to corrugated ribbing cuff by chart.

Yarn usage: Léttlopi ( Istex), 100% wool, 50 gr / 100 m.

It is possible to use one or two contrast colour, then you buy more of the colour you are going to use.

Needles: Circular needles 80 cm / [31.5 in] and 100 cm / [40 in], 4 mm [US 6], 4.5 mm [US 7]. 5 mm [US 8], to use in the colour work. Use the same needle sizes for your preferred method to work the smaller circumferences of sleeves.
Crochet hook: for cardigan size 4.00 mm
Gauge: 18 sts x 23 rnd = 10 cm/ 4 in square in stockinette stitch on needles 5.0 mm [US 8].
Notions: 6 stitch markers, tapestry needle, (8-10 (2 cm / [0.75“]) buttons or zipper, for cardigan).

Measurements on the size chart are finished garment. Measure to ensure the best size. The length on sleeves and body may need adjustment as desired.

I was contacted by Sigrún Ásmundsson President the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba and she asked if I could make a pattern for the 150 years anniversary of Icelandic settlement in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada. I was very proud she asked to be and hope I have done a good job. I used the colours and the pattern of Íslendingadagurinn but I had to change some of the items so they would fit the yoke. It is not always easy to put everything in a yoke, sometimes it needs some adjustment, and I did not use as many colour as were in the logo. If I did you would have had lot of leftover yarn to knit socks, toques, and mittens afterward 😉.

The first year I came I did not know anything about the settlements; except they moved to Canada because it was a hard life in Iceland. I read a book before I went there first time just to know a little bit more about this, and it was very informative even if it was a novel but also it was written after some letters that had been sent to relatives in Iceland. I was really fascinated after my first trip and knew I had to go again to see all these wonderful people I met and were kind of more of an Icelander than I was.... then. You got me to change my mind and really value what I had, kind of taken as a usual thing. Now I´m showing up for the third time in 4 years. Last year I was at the Manitoba Fibre Festival, where the farmers at Luckystone Acres were and we published their own Lopapeysa pattern that is very connected to the farm, I visited in 2023, took some photos, went home to Iceland and designed the pattern. While in Manitoba I met some wonderful, hardworking, very talented knitters, that are still on my team and have been waiting for this pattern to be ready for test knitting. The only thing I can say in my defense is that I´m very Icelandic and always working under pressure (read: I start too late on projects).
